SOUNDS: Sabir Khan (India) - Sarangi & Nihar Mehta (France) - Tabla

Sabir Khan is today in the world an essential reference of and indisputable maestro of Sarangi of his generation after his father late Ustad Sultan Khan..Since the age of 6, he has been trained by his father, the legendary Ustad Sultan Khan, and his grand father Ustad Gulab Khan in the style of the Sikar Gharana. Prodigy of Indian music, he has performed with the most great artists of this tradition such as Ustad Zakir Hussain, Kaushaki Chakraborty, Kumar Bose, Anindo Chatterjee, Ranjit Barot, Salim and Sulaiman Merchant (Womad 2014) and Karsh Kale. Sabir excels in melodic improvisations around the Ragas, and his sarangi, the most demanding Indian instruments, expresses an infinite variety and subtlety of sonority. Sabir has opened a new exciting phase for the music of north of India by popularizing the folk compositions of Rajasthan that he inherited from his ancestors. He is today very appreciated and sought after on the international music scene.

On this tour in June 2019, he is invited by Jazz legend John McLaughlin to perform with him in Monte-Carlo. The tour is organized by prominent Tabla maestro Nihar Mehta based in France through the organisation Saptak-India. He will be accompanying maestro Sabir Khan in this European tour.
