KLASSIK: Dominique Charpentier

Modern Classical

Piano Solo

Einflüsse von Ludovico Einaudi, Yann Tiersen, Olafur Arnalds & Nils Frahm

Pianist and composer Dominique Charpentier was born in Nîmes, southern France, in 1988. Fascinated by the piano sound since an early age, he began to play it at 8. Classical music and more precisely, romantic artists like Chopin and Schubert, were his first strong influences but the revelation about his musical path came with the notes of Yann Tiersen and later on, Ludovico Einaudi.

The simple but intense melodies led him toward minimalist music. It is still the heart of his work, being focused on composing simple but true, deep emotional music that moves the listener immediately.

So far he has released two piano solo album Passages, in 2016, Réminiscence, in 2018, and two experimental EPs L'attente and Esquisses, in 2017.

Although the piano remains the core of his work, his extreme curiosity and open-mindedness led him to explore new musical territories. Video-games, Theatre Plays or movie soundtracks, are also an important part of his career and that is where his multi-instrumentalist talents become handy. Alongside his solo project, composing for movies has been his main focus since 2012.

In 2016 he met director Ofir Raul Graizer and composed the soundtrack for his first feature film The Cakemaker, which was nominated at Karlovy Vary Festival, BFI London, Chicago Film Festival, Jerusalem Film Festival and many more. The movie got various awards and the music was unanimously welcomed by the critics. The original score was released at the beginning of 2018.

Über das neue Album "Réminiscence"

The concept of the album was quite simple: to create piano compositions inspired by cities I have visited or places with which I have a special relation. It's not about description but more about remembering emotions, stories, feelings, and people. Each track was composed in less than two hours, in order to force myself to create something very spontaneous and simple (some of the tracks were composed in a very short time, like "Rue des Acacias", which is actually a total improvisation I made in a piano shop in Paris, while choosing my new piano).

"Réminiscence" is self-released and entirely composed, recorded, mixed and mastered by myself, apart from the track "Berlin" co-written with Fabian Rosenberg a.k.a Klangriket.
